VT Careers Management
Menu of Services to Support Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance

VT Careers Management (VTCM) offers a range of support to help deliver young people’s economic well being through provision of high quality careers education and information, advice and guidance (IAG). Our services are built on a commitment to careers education and IAG as a partnership activity and, through our work, we deliver:-

  1. Improved economic well being and career learning for young people
  2. A competent and committed IAG workforce
  3. High quality provision in line with national standards for IAG

Conferences, Workshops & Resources to Support the IAG Workforce
Annual inset programmes for an area or flexible packages to meet the needs of personal advisers, tutors, teachers and other members of the IAG workforce. Provision links to relevant national occupational standards. Examples include:

  • Meeting the national standards for IAG
  • Delivering economic well-being for students at key stages 3 & 4
  • Evaluating careers work
  • CEG & Work Related Learning at KS4 to meet statutory guidelines
  • An essential guide to working in partnership with schools and colleges for personal advisers
  • Personalising information, guidance and support
  • E-portfolios and Individual Learning Plans
  • An introduction to practical advice and guidance skills
  • Resources to support economic well being programmes
  • Making Effective Use of the Area Prospectus to support career learning
  • Providing local support and assessment for accredited provision including the Advice and Guidance NVQ and the e-learning certificate in Careers Education and Guidance.
  • Fortnightly briefing with ideas and tips for delivering better careers education – Careers Extra

In addition to the packages above, the team is able to work with schools and colleges to deliver customised provision to meet specific local needs.

Consultancy & Support
Support from an expert team of teachers and advisers to deliver economic well-being for students through developing excellent careers education and work-related learning.  Help could include:

  • Tailored support for new co-ordinators and ancillary staff backed up by excellent support materials (Getting Started pack)
  • Tutor team training e.g. Routes 14+ and 16+
  • Development of personal development programmes
  • Support to consortia to develop IAG provision
  • Advice to fulfil obligations to provide careers information.

 

  • Development of classroom materials and resources
  • Advice and resources to help providers evaluate and develop programmes
  • Advice and projects to engage young people in the development of provision through Student Councils, focus groups, peer support sessions etc.
  • Support to develop innovative delivery models for learners e.g. career gyms, career fairs

 

VTCM is always pleased to discuss ways in which it can support partners in the planning and delivery of economic and personal well being for students.

Quality, Evaluation and Research
The team is committed to working with partners to deliver continuous improvement in the provision of economic well being and careers education.  Services include:-

    • Audit/Healthcheck materials and support to facilitate self evaluation
    • Workshops, materials and support to help providers meet the national Investor in Careers quality standard.
  •  ‘Planning for the Future’ student questionnaire and analysis to benchmark provision
  • Research and evaluation

 

Curriculum Resources, Occupational Information and Software and Online Products
VTCM produces a number of nationally recognised resources to support personal and economic well being. These are developed in partnership with teachers and advisers and draw on feedback from young people.  Full details can be found in our Lifeskills Catalogue and include:-

  • The Working In Series of Occupational Booklets linked to the 14 Lines of Learning
  • The STEPS Portfolio of classroom resources for students in Year 9, 10 & 1
  • Career Tracks and Life Tracks
  • Pathfinder Live

VTCM is always pleased to work with partners to develop bespoke materials and recent projects have included the production of the Heathrow Airports Pack and the development of a game to engage young people with London 2012 in partnership with South London Connexions.
