Benefits of using Babcock

Babcock can help pupils and students, parents and school staff in various different ways – all with the ultimate objective of helping young people make career and educational decisions with which they are happy and lead them to success.

For pupils/students

  • You can discuss your career ideas with a professionally qualified career and educational adviser who will not “judge” you or “tell” you what you “ought” to do but lay out your options for you in a factual way
  • The adviser will be impartial, having an objective approach to your academic and career situation whilst supporting you to make your own decisions from the facts in front of you
  • You can talk to the Babcock adviser whether you have no idea what you want to do or whether you know exactly what you want to do but want to check out the different ways you can go about it.
  • Through the Babcock adviser you can access a wealth of knowledge about subject choices and whether certain subjects are necessary, about higher education degree and other course choices and what careers will be open to you if you choose this or that degree.
  • You can find out what different careers and courses actually involve – rather than making decisions based on what you think they are about
  • You can have your abilities and certain aspects of personality measured to see what sort of courses or careers might best match these and be most suitable for you. These tests can show where your areas of greater strength are so that you can choose courses and careers that play to these.

Benefits to parents

  • You can be assured that your son or daughter is receiving guidance from professionally qualified advisers
  • The guidance offered to your son or daughter will be objective and realistic, will challenge false perceptions about possible future careers and courses whilst remaining supportive to help each person fulfil their maximum potential
  • You may well benefit from the fact that becoming clearer about a direction can have a direct bearing on a pupil / student’s motivation to study
  • The guidance process can re-affirm your son or daughter’s ideas allowing them to focus clearly
  • Guidance from Babcock can help your son or daughter successfully make appropriate decisions about each stage of their education and transition to work from GCSE subject to degree course and post-graduate career choice
  • Psychometric profiling actually measures key abilities, so it provides additional hard information to base decisions upon
  • Your son or daughter, through Babcock, will have access to a wide range of Babcock resources, both printed material and software

Benefits to school and college staff

  • Guidance through Babcock  can give your pupils / students motivation to study either because they have new but realistic targets to aim at or because their ideas have been re-affirmed
  • For subject teachers, you are more likely to get pupils / students in your teaching group who have really thought about all the angles before choosing your subject
  • You are more likely to have a student group each of whom  has opted for mutually supporting subjects
  • Babcock advisers can bring from outside the school, a wealth of knowledge and up-to-date experience into the school to complement the work you are doing as a tutor, careers teacher or subject teacher
  • Babcock can advise the school on new educational initiatives on changes in examination structure or on new types of courses which come on stream
  • We can offer seminars and training sessions on a wide range of skills and issues – either from within Indigo’s own resources or by tapping into resources from the wider company
  • We can deliver or advise upon the delivery of careers education programmes (which may be stand-alone or part of PSHE provision in the school)
  • We can provide relevant career related software or printed information into the school – again, either from our own resources or by tapping into resources from the wider company
